As self proclaimed coffee lovers, we recently established that we were spending a little over budget on our monthly caffeine fix.
Our maths calculated a spend of over £10.00 per day on our favourite take away tipple, adding up to the cost of a small mortgage in 1978 per month!
This we determined was more than we were willing to spend, regardless of how much we enjoyed it - see our post entitled "Break Time Quickie - The Importance of a Stressbusting™ “WTP” Analysis" for further insights as to how we reach such conclusions.
So we did a bit of market research and as a result invested in a home coffee making machine (in our case, a Bosch Tassimo, but there are many first class units out there).
We estimated the capital outlay on this would be repaid in savings over only a few weeks, and it was.
We would then save over 50% of spend on coffees even if we combined making home coffees with take aways from time to time as treats.
Add to this that the quality of capsule coffees are excellent, our coffee was always piping hot and the capsule choice selection was no narrower than at take away outlets, and this ended up being a no brainer for us that we wish we'd thought of earlier.
We even purchased ourselves a couple of branded cups to make the home coffee experience more authentic, which we find very pleasing on the eye and the palate.
And the start of the winter season was a good time to make the move over, as its far more pleasant to make a nice cuppa' in the house than to defrost the car to trail to our local drive thru in the cold!
