When recently preparing a document relating to wills in which a series of questions are asked to determine a person's wishes and intentions (see our post entitled "Stressbusting™ Succession - considerations for a will"), MikeyM™'s device's predictive text facility was in full operation, in all its dubious glory.
On completing the document, in accordance with his usual practice, he ran a system spell check.
To his horror and amazement, because he had used a capital letter in the word "Will" to make it what is called a defined term, elsewhere throughout the document, as a result of that capital letter, the system thought when he typed "Will" he must be looking for someone's first name and applied that to the text accordingly.
And there are no prizes for guessing which first name the system assumed he intended to use......yes, "Willy", of course.
Consequently, the document resembled less a formal questionnaire and more a chapter of "Fifty Shades of Grey", with no less than 127 "Willys" on show!
It included probing questions such as:-
"Do you have an effective Willy in place?"
Are you happy with your Willy as it stands?
"How long would you like your Willy to be?"
"Would you like to exclude anyone from your Willy?"
"Is there any person in particular that you would like to benefit from your Willy?".
And so on and so forth - you get the gist.
How this would have looked to a customer if relevant amendments hadn't been made doesn't even bear thinking about!
But ultimately, it was only as result of the spellcheck that a "Willy" didn't creep in unnoticed, and this was a timely reminder of human fallibility and the requirement (per our earlier posts) to both "Embrace Technology to Stressbust™" and "Engage your Inner Child to Stressbust™", as further illustrated in real time in our post entitled ""Don't wave in vain!"".
